Capturing Your Sailing Holiday on Camera
By MedSailors Crew published on 19 September 2015
Digital technology and smartphones have made it ever easier to capture images of holidays on camera, but how simple is it to do so when you are aboard a boat?
The potential problems here are clear: firstly, it is most likely that you as the photographer will be on the move; and secondly, very often your subject will be too. But there are plenty of ways to manage these issues and ensure you go home from your sailing holiday with the best snaps possible.
A tripod might seem the obvious solution here, but on a moving boat this is not really practical. One straightforward option is to balance one or both of your arms on a cushion – or some other support – when taking pictures, as this should lead to a picture that is in focus and not at all blurry.
And in addition to capturing the sights and sounds around you, don’t forget to get some of the boat in all its glory too. Whether it’s while you are on board or when you are ashore, it is a great way to capture memories of your time away.
Last but not least, it goes without saying that most technology does not get on very well with water. So whether you are using your phone or a digital camera, it is worth protecting your property from the elements in order to get your images back home safe and sound.
