Be Your Own Star on a Greece Sailing Holiday

Anyone who has visited Greece will have been struck by the sheer beauty of the landscapes on show. And it is therefore no surprise that Greek islands have long provided inspiration for film-makers across the world.

Sailing Greece - cinematic sunsets

Take Mamma Mia! for example. Based on a stage show using the songs of Swedish super group Abba, the film places Greek culture and scenery at the very heart of the action. Starring multiple Oscar – Meryl Streep, the film portrays a mother-daughter relationship alongside the men in their lives.

But Mamma Mia! is not the only romantic film to have taken shape on Greek shores. British hit Shirley Valentine used Mykonos as inspiration, whilst Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, starring Penelope Cruz and Nicolas Cage, put Greece sailing adventures at the top of many holiday wish lists.

But if romantic movies are not your thing, Greece’s cinematic history has plenty more to offer. Angelina Jolie’s Lara Croft visited many Greek locations in the Tomb Raider follow-up Cradle of Life, whilst Matt Damon’s troubled operative finds solace on the island of Mykonos at the end of The Bourne Identity. And last but not least, even the great James Bond cannot resist the charms of the islands, with For Your Eyes Only featuring some stunning Greek architecture. It’s just one of many movies to capture Greece’s beauty on film.
