A Taste of What Croatia Sailing Has to Offer
By MedSailors Crew published on 27 April 2015
Although it may not be the most famous wine producer in Europe (with nearby Italy somewhat better known for such things), Croatia has been producing top-quality wine for hundreds and hundreds of years.
The island of Korcula, known as the birthplace of famed explorer Marco Polo, is home to a number of picturesque vineyards which are literally ripe and ready for investigation when taking a trip ashore during your Croatia sailing holiday. We’ve all seen pretentious swilling and spit-bucketing on TV, but how exactly are you meant to behave when taking part in a wine-tasting?
Firstly, there is no need to presume that wine-tastings are inherently snooty affairs. On Korcula, wine-tasting is all about being relaxed and making the most of the stunning surroundings – and the stunning drink. But be warned: do not take the invitation to relax as an invitation to drink all of the available wine at a remarkable rate! Make sure bottles are shared out equally, no matter how tempting it might be to return for repeated tastes, and be prepared to offer your opinion about each mouthful as you go.
Whilst offering your opinion, try to be as respectful as you can – after all, you may find yourself in the company of the creators of the tipple. Whatever the wine, remember to take your time over the tasting and give each new flavour a chance.
Above all, a wine-tasting is intended to be enjoyed. So don’t get too hung up on etiquette and “bouquets” – just relax and enjoy the experience.
